Late Harvest Viognier

Appellation: Clements Hills

Vineyard: Bokides Ranch –The Vineyard lies within the Clement Hills AVA which is located within the SE corner of the Lodi appellation. Clements Hills is characterized by rolling hills that emerge out of the San Juaquin Valley to form the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Clements Hills is distinguished by having different soils (loam and clay on top of granite and volcanic) with less vigor and is generally warmer with cooler nights and more rainfall than the West side of Lodi. The vines are approximately 15 years old and trellised. Bokides Vineyards subscribes to the Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing.

Vintage: The Urbano Cellars LH Viognier is a blend of 2010 and 2012 vintages. Both vintages were considered excellent growing years in Lodi & Clement Hills. 2010 & 2012 both had unusually cool summers that allowed for optimal ripening of flavor components. Both years had long, warm and dry autumns that allowed the flavors and sugars to develop in the grapes.

Composition: 100% Viognier

Vinification: Grapes were hand sorted, gently crushed and fermented in a one ton container. After pressing, the wine was transferred to stainless barrels. The wine was blended just prior to bottling in June 2013.

Tasting Notes: Golden color with aromas of honey, straw, citrus and honeydew melons. On the palate this wine integrates melons, citrus and honey with a touch of vanilla and mild sweetness along with a medium body to arrive at deliciously complex and balanced wine. Pair with fresh fruits and fruit tarts, light cookies or nuts. Serve well chilled.
