Vineyard: The grapes come from the Lewis Vineyard located on the Mokelumne River in the Lodi AVA. The vines are approximately 15 years old and head pruned.
Vintage: 2009 was an excellent growing year in Lodi, very similar to the North Coast. It was a cool, moderate vintage with rapid growth and a large crop. It was a superb vintage in Lodi. The Lodi winegrowers who still had grapes hanging were challenged in October with almost 3 inches of rain and humidity for the following week. It was necessary to thin out the vines after the storm.
Composition: 92% Barbera blended with 8% Syrah
Vinification: Grapes were hand sorted, gently crushed and fermented in one ton containers. After pressing, the wine was transferred to a mixture of neutral French and American oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Bright ruby color with fresh cherry aromas along with hints of licorice and jasmine. Light tanins and bright acidity with a rich bing cherry flavor and a lingering finsih accompanied by minerally notes.
