Appellation: Solano County Green Valley
Vineyard: The Wirth Ranch -The grapes come from a vineyard on a Southeast facing slope. The vines are approximately 60 years old and head pruned.
Vintage: The 2004/05 winter was unusually cold and soggy; a mid-March heat spell started the growing season early. Rainy conditions lasted through June and summer temps seldom rose above 90 degrees. The fall rains held out until late October, ultimately the vineyards got the sun and heat they needed.
Composition: 92% Zinfandel 8% Syrah
Vinification: Grapes were crushed and fermented for 15 days. Must was then pressed and transferred to neutral oak barrels where it underwent full ML fermentation.
Tasting Notes: The intensity of the old vine flavors shines through in this zesty Zinfandel. Notes of cedar and mint combine with the spice and subtle berry flavors to create a deliciously full-bodied wine. This wine pairs nicely with a causal BBQ or an elegant roast.
