2006 Zinfandel

Appellation: Solano County Green Valley

Vineyard: The Wirth Ranch -The grapes come from a vineyard on a Southeast facing slope. The vines are approximately 70 years old, head pruned and dry farmed.

Vintage: The year started off with heavy long winter and spring rains, impeding bud break a couple weeks. Once the sunny weather began the abundant water in the ground led to vigorous and vegetative growth. A relatively cool late summer and early fall slowed ripening. The harvest was moderately late but the fruit came in at full physiological ripeness.

Composition: 90% Zinfandel 10% Syrah

Vinification: Grapes were crushed and fermented for 15 days. Must was then pressed and transferred to neutral oak barrels where it underwent full ML fermentation.

Tasting Notes: The intensity of the old vine flavors shines through in this zesty Zinfandel. Bold blackberry, eucalyptus and chocolate aromas with hints of dried marjoram and thyme. On the palate chocolate mint and blackberries combine with the herbs and a touch of cinnamon and cloves. A lingering full bodied mouth feel balances the slightly higher alcohol. Excellent with BBQ meats or poultry as well as hearty stews or chili. Dry aged cheeses pair nicely as well
